Our development team has made significant progress on the ISO build pipeline this week with the addition of a new output directory feature. Builds now automatically write to ~/Documents/iso_output/ on the host system for easier access. This change streamlines the testing workflow for both developers and community members building from source.
Security hardening continues across our GitLab infrastructure with the implementation of Secret Detection and SAST scanning in our CI pipelines. These automated security checks will help prevent credential leaks and identify vulnerabilities early in the development cycle. Both acreetionos.gitlab.io and acreetionos-code.gitlab.io repositories now benefit from these protections.
Natalie has initiated work on cinnamon-settings-configs and webapp-manager repositories with initial commits and build artifact configurations. These components will enhance the Cinnamon desktop experience and simplify application management for our users. The groundwork laid this week sets the stage for more polished desktop integration in upcoming releases.
The Linux kernel team has released another batch of single-fix stable kernels including version 6.18.41. These incremental updates address specific regressions and security issues without introducing new features. We monitor these releases closely to ensure our kernel configurations remain current and secure.
Security updates from major distributions including AlmaLinux and Debian have been issued this Thursday covering packages like gstreamer, libtiff, nodejs, expat, and nss. Our team reviews these upstream patches to determine which are relevant for AcreetionOS users. Staying aligned with upstream security fixes remains a top priority for our small but dedicated team.
Darren continues to maintain the Calamares installer framework while managing our ISO build infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines. His work behind the scenes keeps the entire project running smoothly from kernel configuration to final ISO generation. The father-daughter development duo exemplifies how a small team can maintain a full-featured distribution.
For users building AcreetionOS from source, the new ~/Documents/iso_output/ directory makes locating finished ISOs much more convenient. Simply check this folder after a successful build instead of navigating through nested build directories. This small quality-of-life improvement saves time during iterative testing.
